Jeanette Williams Foundation Toy Drive For UTMB Hospital in Galveston
Tuesday, December 6th 5:00 to 7:00 PM
Bakkhus Greek Restaurant
“I am hopeful to have a toy for every child in the cancer ward at UTMB Galveston, Texas.” –
Dianne Troop.

The Jeanette Williams Foundation along with Bay Area Houston Magazine will be hosting a toy drive on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 at Bakkhus Greek Restaurant.  The event will begin at 5 PM with music by Johnny Felder, a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres being served.  Bakkhus Greek Restaurant is located at 605 6th Street, #A in Kemah, Texas.

"Every child should have at least one new toy for Christmas, and I am hoping we can provide that with this toy drive," Dianne Troop says. "During these tough economic times, parents with sick children have an additional burden that is both emotional and financial. If we can bring a smile to their child's face, it might help lighten that load."

Last summer, the Jeanette Williams Foundation handed each child a toy in the children's ward at UTMB Galveston.  "It was a great feeling to help those children who have to spend time on the ward. The toys they have there help them to take their minds off what they are going through. We are hoping to give each child on the ward a toy of their very own to keep again this year."

The Jeanette Williams Foundation for Children’s Special Projects sends children from the cancer unit at UTMB to summer camp each year. This past summer, JWF sent 50 children to camp at Camp For All, in Burton, Texas, near Brenham.

PRESS RELEASE

Jeanette Williams Foundation Toy Drive For UTMB Hospital in Galveston
A HUGE SUCCESS!

“To give a toy to a child in the cancer ward, is a very humbling experience. It seems so little – in light of what they are going through --, but it gives them a chance to be like any other child at Christmas." – Dianne Troop.

Bakkus Greek Restaurant was the setting for the Jeanette Williams Foundation's most successful toy drive to date.  Everyone enjoyed the best in Greek cuisine while Johnny Felder sang for the assembled crowd.
"Every child should have at least one new toy at Christmas, and we received so many toys tonight that we will be able to provide gifts for all the out-patient kids who will attend the big Christmas Party at Moody Gardens and for our in-patient children at UTMB as well," Diane Troop said. "The love and kindness of the Clear Lake community continues to amaze me. We will have so many happy children because of their generosity."
Last summer, The Jeanette Williams Foundation presented a check for $25,000 to UTMB Galveston's Rainbow Foundation, which enabled fifty children being treated for cancer and blood disorders at UTMB-Galveston to attend Camp For All in Burton, Texas. The success of the foundation's April, 2011 fundraiser, Champagne Wishes, allowed the organization to send twenty more campers last year than they did in 2010.
Following Hurricane Ike, The Jeanette Williams Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research restocked the playroom at UTMB with an assortment of toys, books and games.
